Maritime Safety

Mission

Provide professional safety oversight of Department of the Army controlled or leased watercraft operated on inland waterway, and oceans. The Marine Safety Office functions under requirements of AR 56-9 (Surface Transportation, Watercraft) as the primary advisor to the Army’s Chief of Transportation on all watercraft safety issues. This office is responsible for monitoring compliance to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and the International Convention for the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) for minimum safety standards of watercraft. Serves as subject matter expert in marine accident investigations.

Vision

Maintain professional surveillance of the Transportation Corps Army watercraft worldwide assigned to both TOE and TDA organizations. Provide mission commanders, Soldiers and the Chief of Transportation (COT) safety guidance that is both accurate and timely.
