2023 Hall of Fame Inductee MG Howard F. Schiltz

MG Howard F. Schiltz

Major General Howard F. Schiltz graduated Iowa State College in 1934 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers and entered active service in 1937.

He served as platoon, company, and battalion commander at the Army Engineer Training Center and commanded the 4th U.S. Army’s Engineer Combat Group before transition into the Ordnance Corps, then Transportation Corps. He commanded the 28th Transportation Group, served as Deputy Transportation Officer of the European Communications Zone, Transportation Officer in United Nations Command and 8th U.S. Army, Korea, was designated the Army Project Manager for the Mohawk Aerial Surveillance System, was Commander, Aviation Materiel Command, served as Director of Distribution and Transportation for Army Materiel Command, and the Commanding General, U.S. Army Transportation Center and Fort Eustis. He retired in 1972.

His decorations include Distinguished Service Medal (w/OLC), Legion of Merit (w/OLC), Bronze Star Medal, and Army Commendation Medal (w/2OLCs).
