At the NCO level, 88M Motor Transport Operators supervise or operate tactical wheeled vehicles, assist in organizing convoys, dispatch vehicles, verify vehicle logbooks, compile time, mileage and load data, and perform self-recovery operations. They are skilled in operating all classes of tactical wheeled vehicles and serve as primary trainer of Soldiers.

Proponent Vision: Motor Transport Operators are disciplined, technical experts that provide the Army with motor transportation capabilities to support movement of personnel and cargo. They operate all wheeled vehicles and equipment over rough terrain and roadways in support of combat operations. Motor Transport Operator SGTs supervise or operate wheeled vehicle, assist in organizing convoys, dispatch vehicles, verify vehicle logbooks, compile time, mileage and load data, and perform self-recovery operations. They are skilled in operating all classes of wheeled vehicles and serve as primary trainer of Soldiers.

Developmental/ Experiential Learning

Positions: SR Vehicle Driver, HET Vehicle Driver, Heavy Vehicle Driver, Dispatcher, Operations SGT, Training Mgmt NCO, Chauffer

Broadening Experiences: Drill Sergeant, Recruiter, Courier, Instructor

Experiences: Motor Transport Operators gain a variety of experiences through institutional and home station training, and combat training center exercises. With sufficient experience they can become AIT instructors and hold positions of greater responsibility.

Proponent Vision: The Motor Transport Operator Sergeant First Class leads disciplined, technical experts in support of the Army’s motor transport, personnel movement, and cargo distribution missions. They plan, manage, and monitor motor transport support operations and manage Army driver sustainment training programs. The Motor Transport SFC manages and organizes vehicle fleets, prepares security and defense plans, receives and distributes highway motor transport missions, and assembles reconnaissance data for convoy transports. They are skilled at managing resources/requirements and lead platoons.
