BG Gil Harper was commissioned into the Transportation Corps in 1970 from the US Military Academy. He commanded the 66th Truck Company and the B Company, 97th Quartermaster Battalion in Germany, the 193rd Support Battalion in Panama, and the 593rd Area Support Group at Fort Lewis, DESERT STORM, and RESTORE HOPE (Somalia). He served on the Army Staff and the Joint Staff. He retired in 1999 as the 18th Chief of Army Transportation.
BG Harper earned Master’s Degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research from Stanford University and was a National Security Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Following retirement from the Army, Gil Harper worked as Senior Vice President, Penguin Group USA and subsequently as Managing Director, Pearson Shared Services, United Kingdom.
Following retirement from Pearson, he founded Broadmoor Business Solutions and taught as an adjunct for the College of Charleston and the Citadel. His charitable endeavors include serving as Vice Chair, Friends of Fisher House Charleston SC; President of the West Point Society of Charleston SC; Founding Member of Patriots of the Lowcountry; and Advisor to the Board, Olive Branch International. He currently serves on the Board of the Army Transportation Museum Foundation.
