Major General Richard G. Larson was commissioned a second lieutenant through the University of Idaho ROTC program in 1965. His 29 years of service included serving two tours in Vietnam.
He commanded B Co. 1st Aircraft Maintenance Battalion, 394th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Group, Western Area, Military Traffic Management Command, Western Area Terminal, and Military Traffic Management Command. Other key assignments include Chief, Individual Training Design Branch, U.S. Army Transportation School; Personnel Management Officer, PERSCOM; Director, Transportation, Energy and Troop Support; and Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, U.S. Army.
His decorations and badges include: Defense Superior Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit (w/3OLC), Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldier’s Medal, Bronze Star with “V” Device (w/ 3 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/OLC), Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, and Senior Army Aviator Badge.
